Agreed, autos are great off-road, for a start you do not have to change gear halfway up that difficult hill!

Also they are less affected by the use of larger tyres as the clutches and torque converter cope much better (however it is possible to over heat the clutches and fluid and wreck them)

If you go auto then treat it to very regular, high quality fluid changes and top-ups. Suzuki autos hate being neglected and pay you back for maltreatment by failing expensively.

I dont think I'd be doing anything much hardcore, will go to the localish off road site Devils Pit with it, might be nice to try a bit of green laneing. I was thinking putting MT tyres on it, any other reconmendations if I were to green lane it or would it cope well enough as is?

I go offroad in my auto Pajero and I love it but I don't do the crazy mudplugging that peeps on here seem to like, just crossing fields is all! Auto all the way for me but that's me! So what you are after seems well within reason for an auto. The Jimny is a bit lighter so should do even better.

Perhaps one other way to look after a Suzuki auto is to get a bigger oil cooler for the transmission oil.

I think if I did another Jimjam I would seriously consider an auto. In fact if I were to change to another Offroader it would almost certainly be an auto for the reason Martin says about hills etc.

AT LAST Jimny Auto's have found a voice! Where have you all been? Is it that you don't want to upset those off road members with manual gearboxes? Or do you just like to keep a good thing to yourselves?

ps. Where do I get a bigger oil cooler from?
