Surely it wastes a bit of power spinning when the engine isn't hot? And the Jimny doesn't really have power to spare!
Oh well - as you say, not a problem, and my temp gauge never goes above halfway up the dial, so I guess it does the job.

Is this type of fan a problem when crossing water? Does it throw water all around the engine bay?

Yes, but usually when driving in water you push the water in front of the car and drive at the speed of the wave, so the engine compartment is in the trough behind the wave.
I've done it a couple of times at the Landrover Experience, with someone else's car
I don't take the jimny through deep water, I'd rather spend an hour driving round it than 4 hours and a pot of cash fixing the water damage to brakes clutch and bearings.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

It spins but doesn't really use any power until the engine gets hot when the clutch locks up. The fan is most efficient at 3000RPM so its designed not to turn any faster than that under normal use.
They do throw water all round the engine bay and as they are only designed to push air it tends to wreck them pretty quickly too.
