I'm guessing that if you set a Jimny up for 4x4 use, it will not drive that nicely on the road?? I have driven a mate's SWB landy that he uses for off roading and it drives like a pig on tarmac! Lol.

Modulars are not Alloy they are sleels with a welded in center..............this is where I think my problem comes from i.e. the tolerance when the center is welded in is poor so effectively the wheel is not straight causing the same problem you have identified.

What it needs is for the wobblers to tell us if they practise cleanliness or not. I'm betting them that have this nasty affliction try it all. I put on my recently acquired alloys and right off got the nastiest wobble I've ever had at 45mph. I had cleaned the mating surfaces off with a wire brush, the surfaces on the wheels were really manky, those on the hub weren't to bad. It's either balance or untrue wheels/tyres in this case.

I thought modulars were bolted together which admittedly might cause balance problems?

I have never had death wobble on my jimny which is used and abused!
The only cause of wobble I have had was the following

This is why I no longer choose to use Special Tracs on the road. I hate re-mould tyres.

These same alloys (Daihatsu fourtrak alloys) now have as little as 15 grams of balance weights on as I have quality new 31/10.5/15 tyres. Special tracs are so poorly manufactured they took the wheel balancer out of tolerence.

still not convinced it's that simple, I've 32mm spacers and all surfaces are clean but I haven't tried a micrometer on the spacers to check tolerances

howvever, after my 40mm lift (thanks to HastieKid) my wobble went away :cheer:

and after new discs, it stayed away :cheer:

but it's just come back along with a squeak (wheel barrow sqeaky wheel sound) on the nearside front when I go over a bump or into a hole - guess this is a knacked BJ as noticed the rubber was split ??????

:(

I think a'lot of the issue is down to how the wheel is fitted, as all nuts are torqued correctly in the correct order. Maybe not everyone does this correctly so the wheel does not mate flush.
