Re:- Pkitchen 123 query:-
- Sorry for the tecnical hijack. What is the consensus on 215/75 R15 on the road, specifically any gearing up? I have 195/80 R15 at the moment, and from my calculation the 215's will have a bigger diameter? I'd love some 235's for the look, but I need to do 600 plus miles per month.

Well:-
My wife and I have covered well over 200,000 miles in our Jimny's over the last 13 years on BFG A/T 215/75 r15.
They make little difference to the overall gearing and I'd recommend them. The vast majority of these miles have been done on the road, - indeed my wife commutes 400 miles per week.

IMO BFG are the best tyre on the market - they aren't cheap but factor in that we have obtained on average 80K miles out of a set on the road - they pay for themselves - and they still had above the legal tread limit left when we changed them. They also fit standard Jimny's without any problems.

Their performance in the wet, snow, ice is superb.

By comparison, the standard tyre (Bridgestone Dueller's 205/70 R15, are a good road tyre - we managed 63,000 miles on a set, though for green laning or winter use for a car used mainly on the road I'd go for BFG AT's every time.

Hi Ilten,

Ref Comment:-"They can be fitted - but not without trimming.
You can drive them without changing the gearing - but it is most definately not fun to drive."

Interesting, - i'm sure I saw a post on here recently where someone mentioned he had 235/75's fitted and didn't need to trim at all - and without a body lift? It may have been due to only road use though.... May also depend on the make/style as well - i'm sure aggressive Muds are far more likely to catch than AT's?
Could also depend on the age of the Jimny as the facelifted versions appear to have less front wheel arch clearnce towards the bumper?

If thet are going to catch presumably it's on full lock on the front inner wheelarches Though as used 99% of the time on the road presumably would be OK?

Hi. Having just bought an 04 jimmy with 235 tires on I can confirm they do catch at both the front and rear of the arch every time you articulate in the slightest. (Even speed bumps) the gearing sucks too so if u want to do 30 in fourth forget it unless totally flat or downhill. Plus side on the maxiis fitted it holds the road amazingly and corners on rails and looks good B) replacing with Yokohama geolanders a/t. 205s. Had them on last Jimmy ran fine bit loose on cornering but progressive and controllable. Mint in wet and mud

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated. Have you tried BFG A/T 215/75 - I'd recommend these - in my opinion they are the best AT tyre on the market and fit without any modifications at all, - no lift is needed, and they don't catch at all (I use my Jimny on the road and light green laning). They grip well in all conditions, last 60,000 miles plus and enable the car to drive from ust below 30mph on the flat.

Is that on standard suspension?
