235/75 R15 BFG Tyres was created by suzook
Hi, this is my first post so hopefully someone will be able to help?

I have a year 2000 model (old styled Jimny) with a ProComp Explorer plus 2 inch suspension lift - comprising of Pro-Comp ES1000 shocks and Explorer Springs; Rhino Ray castor corrected front radius arms and trailing arms. My Jimny is currently fitted with BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres (sizes 215/75 R15) which have done 70,000 miles and will need replacing soon. My question is, I'd like to fit slightly larger tyres - size 235/75 R15 on my standard OZ Alloy wheels to my 2" lifted Jimny. Can anyone confirm if 235/75 R15 BFG All Terrain Tyres will fit the old style Jimny with a 2" suspension lift without any problems, using the standard alloy wheels? I do not want to trim the bodywork at all. My Jimny is also fitted with the genuine Suzuki mudflaps all round which may intrude with the bigger tyres?

I know a lot of forum questions may have asked similar questions - however I'm not after the more aggressive mud terrain tyre - only the A/T version, as for me, these are the best compromise tyre available (the Jimny spends a large amount of time on the road).

Just out of interest, if anyone wants to know, BFG A/T tyres in size 215/75 R15 will fit a standard Jimny without problems. I have them fitted to my 2006 and wifes 2007 Jimnys which are standard. Unfortunately the next size up that BFG make are the 235/75's. (Some other makes do interim sizes of 225/75 R15, however, i'd like to remain with the BFG brand.

Lastly, will 235/75 R15 BFG A/T severly hamper the gearing on the road, in comparison with the 215/75 R15's?

215/75 R15 = Rim Diameter: 27.7" Sidewall 6.3" radius 13.8" circumference 87.0" Revs/mile 728.0

235/75 R15 = Rim Diameter: 28.9" Sidewall 6.9" radius 14.4" circumference 90.7" Revs/mile 698.0

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to Bigjimny B)

Unless you want to start trimming arches and spending big on gearing, stick to 215/75/15 tyres. Also it will drink more fuel.

Thanks Supergaz, :)

I'm wondering if any members have actually fitted BFG A/T or M/T tyres in size 235/75 R15 to Jimny's fitted with a 2" lift without trimming the bodywork? If so, was the road performance compromised (i.e. gearing) adversely? Can the engine pull these sized tyres on the road OK?

Thanks

They can be fitted - but not without trimming.
You can drive them without changing the gearing - but it is most definately not fun to drive.

Sorry for the tecnical hijack. What is the consensus on 215/75 R15 on the road, specifically any gearing up? I have 195/80 R15 at the moment, and from my calculation the 215's will have a bigger diameter? I'd love some 235's for the look, but I need to do 600 plus miles per month.

Going up a size is not too bad, going up a couple of sizes is a bit more. To have 235's it will kill the clutch and you will be flat out everywhere, then you need to start changing the gearing and this gets expensive. Then people like myself change the gearing and then start wanting bigger engines. 215/75/15 in my opinion is the best compromise on a bit bigger without the added expense/problems.
