Electric window motor was created by 2013gary
Hi everyone,
My driver's side electric window no longer works and due to the smell of burning shortly before I assume the electric motor has given up. I've bought a replacement motor and mechanism for the window.
Is replacing it a weekday evening job or a whole Saturday/no knuckles left afterwards kind of job? Also has anyone done anything similar before? It looks fairly easy to get to by removing the inner door.

Inner door lining is very easy: two screws for the handle, one screw for the latch and one plastic fixing cleary visible; the mirror cover (small black triangle) also comes out by pulling. Then you gently pry the door lining and that's it.
Motor has some sturdy screw; I guess you'd have to be very careful about lining up the glass and rails.
To give you an idea, here's how it looks like (door latch is top right, motor is middle right, locking mechanism is on the left):
Looks somewhat of a pain due to having to work behind the metal sheet.

it is a PITA ... get ready to lose some skin off your hands ... or wear kevlar gloves!!
I had to replace one, last year ... i wish that I had bought a door with one already in.

Thanks to both of you for the information and advice. Are there any jobs at all that can be done on a Jimny without losing skin on your hands??

Fitting a steering damper is OK. But then that's adding, not replacing.
Although I have heard that working in the confined spaces of a Jimny can result in obtaining an NVQ Gynaecology. :S
