Hi,

The stud that holds the rear lower shocker has snapped off ...

Does anyone know a good brand of drill bit i can go and buy so I can drill a hole right the way through??

Thanks

I had to buy a cobalt drill bit as it quickly chewed a standard one.

hi,

if cobalt drill fails, you can try with Titanium Nitride Coated drill

if it fails, you can try with a masonry drill (tungsten carbide) sharpened to steel

Success

I drill all sorts of nasty material and use only HSS drill bits you need to keep your speed very slow and apply good heavy pressure with a suitable cutting oil start with a smaller drill bit and work your way up to the size you require.
As any acomplished machinist will tell you its all in the speed and the feeds and wasting money on fancy drills that will either chip or chatter there coating off when you have no rigid set up IMO is a waste of money

Amen to that... Not been machining long but you learn that quickly :)

Thanks everyone for, as ever, great advice.

I've had a b1tch of an evening.

First attempt was to get sheared off bolt out using extractor - extractor snapped leaving half of it on

Subsequent attempt to drill a hole through floundered hopelessly.

In the end we used Mr. A Grinder to cut off the piece of bar (where stud was snapped off) which then allowed to push out snapped-off extractor from other end.

I now need an 11mm drill and get a piece of pipe (similar to angle grinded off) and then a long enough Bolt with a Nylock.

Almost there :)
