swivel hub, one rusty, other greasy was created by cle74
Hi there!
I'm new here. Just bought a Jimny and before makeing mods, I want to get it in (almost) perfect technical shape.
On the front axle at the swivel hub, I noticed that one side is very dry and rusty, the other side greasy. I especially worry about the dry side, because it should be a shiny ball there, or am I wrong?
The steering does not center very well too. Maybe it is because there are wide rims on it with 235/60 tires (wall of the tires is just a little wider then the wheel arches).
Should I rebuild the front with new kingpin bearings and seals? What could be the cause of the rusty side? There is enough oil in the axle (just changed it, old oil came out clean).
Would be great if I could get some suggestions from you!

Well its safe to say you will be doing one side or another as they are both in different states :pinch:
I'm 99% sure they are meant to be dry. A greasy or oily ball (ooohhh, Matron!) is a sign of a failed KP bearing and/or seal.

Your thinking of landrover swival hubs witch are an oil seel ball the jimny is just a dust seal ball the one with oil/grease coming out is the one that needs looking at as said king pin beaings and half shaft seal to start with

Thanks for the advice!
So probably I will rebuild the whole front including wheel bearings, axle seal and kingpin bearings. The brake discs need replacing too, so it will be done in one job.
I already printed your guide Martin! That will be a great help.
Any tips for shops where to buy these parts and how to recognize low quality bearings? Or is the safest way the Suzuki dealer? I don't want to spend my time with installing bad parts!
