Did you ensure that the pins, discs and pads went back from where you took them off, both from top to bottom for the pins and side to side? Just a thought.

Mate, I have a bit of wobble back at 45mph & either side with new kingpins that are shimmed to be a little on the tight side, newish wheel bearings, new track rod ends, all new Super Pro suspension bushes including the panhard rods, new rear wheel bearings and the wheels and tyres have been balanced with balancing beads.

Once the balancing beads were added it was pretty much eliminated. I put the car away in the garage for a week or two with no use, then drove it about 100 odd miles on road and as soon as it came out the garage it was back!

I don't know what to suspect now. I think possibly the balancing beads may have clumped together and are breaking away from each other again as more regular driving is seeing it improve.

Another part of me wonders if the tyres gained a flat spot from being sat still so long as it's improving with use.

You have to eliminate all possible mechanical causes like I have and keep on top of the maintenance.

For me the issue is almost certainly the tyres being so aggressive and possibly lack of use.

Each time I have had them balanced conventionally the wobble has gone away. Many other people report mechanical problems being the cause, such as kingpin bearings, wheel bearings, track rod ends.

I am coming to the opinion that on a modified truck like mine, you will have to accept some steering wheel wobble.

Mine is by no means death wobble and is again improving, but by joves it's a weird old phenomenon and applying common sense to it doesn't seem to help.

I don't believe Suzuki ever really solved it but they concentrated efforts on the kingpin bearings. To me there us more to it and tyre balancing seems to be a key factor.

There's a long winded way of saying change all components on the front axle that could wear and make sure your front tyres are well balanced!

Edit: I have today adjusted my front panhard rod (it's needed it for a while now but I've not got round to doing it!) and tightened up the driver's side bolt up quite tight. My steering wheel is wonky from the adjustment, so sortingthat and the tracking out is a job for tomorrow, but my wobble has again gone. I have also put my tyres up to 30psi, which is a little high.

I shall let my tyres back down to 26 psi after I've got the steering wheel straight and the tracking right and see if it's still done. If it comes back with less pressure in the tyres it will help confirm it's the tyres. I don't expect it to come back as I've played with the pressures before.

So if my wobble has gone again, I am confident I can put my last bout of wobble down to the panhard rod not being bolted up tight enough. Worn panhard rod bushes will have the same effect.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm going to do the pads and discs anyway, then see if the balancing needs looking at, and I'll check all the arms and brackets while I'm at it.

Cheers,

Matt

Let us know what you find if anything.

I have now adjusted my steering so it's straight and let the tyres back down to 26psi and still have no wobble! It drives like a dream, as much as a lifted Jimny with big aggressive tyres can do anyway!

Are you running spacers as well?????? I found the hollow ones can cause a wobble.....
