M16A Engine Swap was created by Licksan
Does anyone on here have an M16 powered Jimny?
I have a 2001 Jimny with an M13A non VVT motor but am craving more power! Not too fussed about going Derv power due to the amount of work involved but can see the benefits. I want to be able to do the swap over a weekend as I need to use the car in the week.
I had thought about fitting an M15A from an Ignis Sport but that would require a means of triggering the VVT. Whilst not impossible it's extra work and potential for problems. There are non VVT cams available for that motor but I figured fitting an M16A could be a simpler option.
I have done a fair but of reading but would like to hear from someone who has done it first hand.
I believe you use the M16A block, internals, head and injectors with the M13A inlet manifold, throttle body, flywheel, sump, exhaust manifold and ancillaries?
Does the standard Jimny ECU run the M16A to its full potential without remapping or just gets it running?
Do the standard Jimny gear ratios work well with the power and torque curves of the M16A?
Do the standard Jimny engine mounts fit?
Do you use the M16A sensors or fit the M13A ones?
Can the M16A throttle body be made to work with the standard M13A TPS and Idle Control or is there no benefit?
Is it a worthwhile swap?!

Pretty sure the Liana uses a non VVT version of the M16A.
The lads down under seem to be making some progress with swapping M series motors but they are going for the M18A which we don't get in the UK!
This is a useful thread but I don't like the word "adequate!"

Hi mate I have a m16a engine in my jimny its a 2002 car It was in there when I bought so can't help with the fitting but I can tell u it looks like its ment to be there and couldn't tell the diffance had to check the engine code engine mounts and all the rest looks like the 1.3 ones and the ecu doesn't look like its bin messed with and for the gearing I got 31inch tyres and its seems to get going pretty fast and my speedo was only 4 miles out on my gps so I would say it works well with the extra power I was shocked if u would like any pics of anything so u can look for yourself let me know and I'll put them up and the m16a I have in mine was out of a liana hope this helps Chris

Unless you already have a VVT Jimny I think you will need something to trigger the VVT as the non VVT Jimny doesn't have a connector for this. Im sure it's possible with an aftermarket controller like a dastech. I don't know enough about the ECU but it may have a spare pin for this although I suspect it would need remapping which is another issue or maybe an ECU swap... I had thought about trying with an Ignis Sport M15A VVT. Jimny does need more power!

If your Jimny is an m13a you'll need an m16a from a liana (be carefully though as later lianas have vvt engines) the only part of the liana engine you use is the block, cylinder head and injectors every thing else is off the Jimny.
Once you've got the engine back in it fires first time with a smooth tick over has loads more power and doesn't use any more fuel.
