My diffs touch the floor alot and i have had my chassis beach on the floor also, if you purely want ground clearence from rutts etc i'd go for a body lift and fit bigger tyres, if you not doing big climbs or decents then the gearing is not a huge issue, but obviously does play a factor in the off road ability.

i have learnt my lesson now and try stay clear of rutts and bridge them instead but you still get nocks and bangs as your car touches the floor, the only way of lifting your diffs up is bigger tyres.
i can get most places where others get in a standard car with a snorkel and muds, it becomes more about picking your line and making sure you car can get through rather than just being higher, obviously that helps but dont need to be tall to get places!
