If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

The check engine light is flashing because the engine is immobilised. It is not a fault.
Either you have both keys together on the same ring, or the sensor coil has got a loose connection.
It wont take 10 minutes to remove the plastic cowling around the ignition switch to check the sensor coil.

hi all. just managed to get talking to that dealer. he advised me that the problem lies with the spare key.
It does indeed seem to be that key causing the problem.
he said that the problem is because that spare key lost the code as it wasnt used for a long time.
In all fairness to this gentleman, he told me he will be making arrangements with a dealer close by to me tomorow to get it sorted free of charge.
it needs to be reset.
fair play to him I would say.
thx to all of you for your advise and suggestions

He doesn't have a clue what is wrong :side:
Then it will be their problem, doesn't matter what is causing it.
Good result, I thought you might have to drive back 380 miles to get it sorted
