Thank you Vitara_mad, I'd read this in the manual, but 'forgotten' about it. If truth be known I'd failed to truly appreciate what it meant. Goes to show we should never stop learning. A good indicator if stuck in the wilds. I still have a slight preference for a meter, but money is always tight.
I'll giver it a try by initiating pseudo faults and see how I get on. Kind regards, Tony aka (Teafortwo)

I have what Martin has and It's great. I have all the codes printed in the glove box and have used It's code reading ability twice and use the gauge permanently.
I like to keep an eye on the coolant temps and where the car gauge doesn't move the maxi scan gauge warned me my rad was too full of mud to work! A saved engine!

sorry to revive an old thread.
i ordered an Ultra-gauge, this is something similar to Maxiscan and Scangauge2, from the US, and tried to plug it in yesterday in my 04 Jimny hard top. the scanner would only read "scanning".
how will I be able to check if my Jimny is OBD2 certified? Is there a fuse for the OBD port?
btw, I'm from the Philippines and our Jimny is Japan built.
