I am sure you have all seen the AI generated rubbish purporting to show the next generation Jimny or even "testing" pictures of a disguised Jimny,

I have taken these with a complete "pinch of salt" firstly because AI is everywhere and is creating junk for clicks and secondly because electric cars need a fundamentally new platform under the skin. The latter has always had me thinking that the next vehicle to bear the Jimny name is likely to be based on a more standard body, perhaps even a badged version of a 2wd vehicle with "allgrip" nomenclature and 4wd.

Therefore when I read the latest article on Suzuki plans for the future in AutoExpress, I was very pleased to see what in my opinion is the first signs that there will be a next gen Jimny.

www.autoexpress.co.uk/suzuki/370550/new-...-beat-chinese-rivals

The article talks about a new modular approach to car design with a toolkit of parts, all individually developed, that can be assembled into the car of choice. To me, this is exactly what is needed to ensure the Jimny returns. Low development costs as the costs are distributed across all the cars in development, fast track to market and the ability to address the needs of different markets (ie. all electric, hybrid and even conventional ICE).

So I think this is the first genuine glimpse that a new Jimny will be coming. We are getting in the UK the first car on this platform in the new year (2027), the "eSky" which is an electric Kei car. This is interesting as it is based on the toolkit of parts and is a Kei compliant platform which is what the Jimny is as well (in all generations). Therefore, to me, this fits the concept of a platform suitable for bolting on the two powered axles from the kit and a body "toughened" up with chunky plastic trims.

Unlike the AI pictures of the next gen Jimny, the eSKY shows the very deep front that I expect from an electric vehicle, I would expect the "real" Jimny to have this deep front end.

So a glimmer of hope. Typically these new innovations appear as concept cars at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the next salon is in 2027 so I will be watching carefully what is said then. In the meantime I will be taking the new Jimny eSKY for a drive in the new year to take a look.

this is , of course, my own opinion, Whats your view??

I think my takeaway from that then is that bellerophon is amongst the last of the industrial grade true 4x4 jimny and whatever comes next with a suzuki badge isn't going to be a farm truck. Hmm that's a bit sad.

It would be great if they did build a hybrid version of the Jimny along the lines of Nissan ePower. Great range and lots of torque at the low end, without the weight of heavy batteries.

Expect them to be £40k….

Well I've just put £85 of fuel across two Jimnys!!! 😢 So yeah roll on with the EV Jimnys 👊

It would seem my plan of switching Jimnys when one gets low on fuel doesn't work as then eventually they all need filling up 🙄
