(Unconventional) Portable Winch

I got something very similar about 20 years ago with a plate that hooks over the tow ball or like you on a bridle off the front. No doubt it works but I have used it twice in years I've had it even on the farm. It's one of those where if I need it i don't have it or if I have it I don't need it.
That is the main reason I didn't want to go the fully fitted method. As I hope this is something that I never need to use in anger. I always take my recovery kit out with me when laning. Last month was the first time I have used any of it. Four of us out, only one car with a winch, a Jeep TJ. That is the car that broke down in the worst place (turned out the fuel pump gave up), not sure how it's been wired up, but the winch won't work without the engine running  . That is what got me thinking about these portable winches again.
