Ok its mainly not Jimnys (Perhaps that's a good thing!)  although you do see an SJ and Gen 3 attempt the Mud Run at Billing this weekend. Some evening entertainment for you all to watch. It would seem that a snorkel and hitting the rev limiter buys you a one way ticket to the scrap yard.

I did stuff like that 30 years ago.
Then, when dismantling the wiper motor to get mud out I finally realised that wrecking my vehicle for the entertainment of others was a mug's game. (The crowd are not there to cheer you on, they want to hear mechanical bangs and the grinding of metal on metal, and laugh when you get pulled out with muddy water inside up to the top of the dashboard.)

Now, 4" of water/ mud is the maximum I'm prepared to risk in my own vehicle, it is much better to spend 4 hours driving round than 40 hours repairing (and 400 hours working to pay for the parts)!

They were great times 30 years ago, there would be an old quarry open somewhere every weekend and we'd all spend Sunday morning playing around.

There used to be a Scammel Explorer that would merrily chug through mud holes like that, and a leaky Gamma Goat (that Detroit Diesel was LOUD!!!) that were regular attenders.

I was quite impressed by the Marshals doing all the attaching of tow straps and risking all manner of diseases- in my day you crawled over your bonnet and caught the strap and attached it yourself, the objective was not to go into the water.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I done billing on Sunday, I definitely avoided the mud both runs, I enjoyed watching people making through it but our jimny is not made for it.

Even in 40cm of water/mud the drum brakes will need cleaning and you may get water into axles and boxes and break stuff. So then I can just as well go deeper right? If it breaks I will fix it. Had to get a new transfer case and a new amp for the woofer after my drowning in Denmark in May. Still the car made it home 1000km. I will go deep again next year though, Cant help myself :)

Entertaining to watch. It's funny how many people mess it up just by doing silly things like being in too high a gear. Also notable that many vehicles with snorkels fitted still weren't capable of coping with the deep water.
It's a bit annoying that once a bigger truck has been stuck and made some ruts you're pretty much wasting your time trying anything like that in a Jimny, unless its been extensively modified and to a good standard. A Jimny will go lots of places other 4x4s won't, but not after they have all had a god a rutted it up!

Sorry but you could pay me enough money to make me think that Elon needs to be on income support and I would still not want to do that in mine!
