Call me overly fussy, but when I've done these I got the exposed threads sparkling clean first.  Oil, wire brush, and a die.  In my opinion, the really risky part is the initial breaking free of the nut, because you're fighting a lot of torque with that hex key at that point.  But from there it should be easy peasy-- if the threads are greasy.

Some who deal with this type of ball joint post will cap the exposed threads to keep off corrosion etc, but I have never seen someone do this with a Jimny.  

Maybe a little more prep work on the exposed threads will make Round 2 go more smoothly?  Worth a try anyway.
Had this problem with the Swift ball joint at the drop links. Got a tip from a well experienced mechanic to just grind off and cut the threads that were exposed outside the ball joint nut. Then you are just fighting the thread rust inside the nut and not the sorry state of the exposed part. Mine went off quite easy doing it like this.
