If it is a properly designed roof box (e.g. Thule) The issue will be more about weight distribution than fuel consumption. I have a Thule roof box which is the full length of the roof of the Gen 3 and my fuel consumption difference with or without the box was negligible. I had more of an issue bottoming out because of the weight I was carrying.

This is a completely off brand one with no markings I can see. Weight wise I'll be no more than 6 or 7 kg more than I would be without the box as it is not for additional storage but for avoiding having to completely pack around the dogs cage with all the bulk items like clothing and bedding we seem to need for a week away, it's to make the doggo s life nicer.
