I’ve seen people post on here a couple of times about the 4th gen having a side by side rocking movement. Often with people hoping a lift kit would solve it.
Previously I couldn’t relate to this. As I just couldn’t notice this trait. But I’m wondering if something wears or goes wrong on the Jimny?
Mine is 2 years old, almost to the week. And done 12,500 miles. It shouldn’t be worn at all. But it has developed a suspension clonk of some sort. Not sure what yet, but it is in for its service soon. So, I will get them to look at it.
I also think it isn’t riding as compliant as it was. And today it became very apparent it has a strong side to side rocking, almost oscillating motion when driving down the road. This was three up and 60-70mph dual carriageway way. It seemed slightly worse when you lifted off of the throttle. But was pretty constant.
Very much matching the description I’ve seen others posting on here. Clearly some component has failed prematurely. It’ll be interesting to see what the dealer says. To which I’ll report back on here.
For now, has anybody else observed similar?

Sounds anti roll bar related to me, have you put a bar into the drop links and be bushes to see if you have any movement?

The other alternative that spring's to mind would be a bolt check of the panhard bar. I had that on Dreadnaught, took me ages to find.

As Lambert says take a look at the anti roll bar rubbers, I have seen some pictures of these falling prematurely on gen4 Jimnys. Also look at the spring seats to see if the spring is correctly orientated and not moving around

I don't know if 300bhpton has carried out a suspension lift, but for those who have, it is important that the control bar and track bar bushing bolts are loosened after fitting and the vehicle is jiggled about to settle everything and then the fasteners are torqued up. Refer to page 10 in the Trailmaster fitting sheet.
If this instruction, and it is correct for all suspension lifts, is not carried out then the bushings are subject to an extra twisting movement that will incur earlier failure of the rubber/metal bonding.

No side to side rocking motion detected on ours while driving, it's done 8,000 miles.
We've been out in some fairly windy conditions as well, particularly on the way to Wales on the motorway which always seems to be bad for side winds.
Although you can put both hands on the roof gutter when it's parked and easily rock it from side to side.
