Ironman roof rack noise was created by Maystro
Hi Guy's,

I fitted a Ironman cage roof rack and it makes some noise which I am totally fine with around town at 60km/hr but on the high way today at any speed over 90 km/hr it starts to make an un bearable howl noise.   Has anyone else experienced this?   If so is their a wind deflector I can fit to quiet it down a little bit?

It wasn't a cheap roof rack.  It was $1200 AUD fitted by Ironman.  I only chose it because of its full alloy construction which makes it weigh in at only 17kg's.

Thanks

Brad May.

I don't have direct experience of the Iron man rack, but fitting an LED strip light to mine actually reduced the noise slightly.
In NO WAY am I suggesting this is a fix for yours, but it highlights that a slight change in the aerodynamics can impact the wind noise generated.
With this in mind why not try fitting temporary cardboard / tape deflectors in an attempt to identify the source or change the air flow over the rack. It's possible a simple change could make all the difference, and once identified a permanent solution made and fitted.

Only suggesting this as I have never seen noise "silencer" offered for any roof rack system, so this may need to be a DIY solution.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

Some noise from a roof rack is to be expected but Ironman would be expected to carry out some speed tests to ascertain the level of noise likely, so I would email them and query the level of noise you are getting.

In the meantime I would suggest you try Scimikes idea and make a wind deflector.

It will be quieter when there's stuff on it. Is it simple enough to remove when you're not using it?

Try a bungee cord or even two stretched across the front,it may work to deflect the airflow.

ironman and frontrunner have been producing their roofracks for a long time.

I know the frontrunner have a small wind deflector that you have to install. sometimes this is not done and you will have lots of windnoise.

I suggest contact the ironman agent. / shop where you bought it. something sounds not right.
