MMMMM ? seems I can't win with this one. I was only thinking of about 5mm so the tyres stayed within the arches. Maybe the slightly bigger tyre you first mentioned is the easier option.
Just a thought , presumably this would throw the speedo out a bit ?
Thanks for your experience.

For small differences like 5mm you need to consider the length of the wheel studs with regards to engagement on the nuts. I might consider some after market steel wheels. They can be got in various offsets from 0 to something like 32mm. As the factory wheels are inset 5mm a set of 0's would have the same effect but without the complications of the wheel studs. Or like you said some 215s.

I fitted 215 75 x 15 BFG KO2 AT's on my car when completely standard and the impact on gearing is minimal, it actually made the road speed and speedometer line up accurately. It does hit acceleration but again not too much.

My car had very tired (low) suspension and there was no rubbing at all. I then fitted 32mm spacers (which fill the arches perfectly, all tread covered) and there was a tiny catch at full lock.

I think these pictures are with the tyres and nothing else...

215's do look better but they do hit you with a few negatives... acceleration & fuel... but was happy with them.

Thanks Everybody for your good advice and tips . The final solution was a set of 215/75 R15 General Grabbers they fill the arches nicely , just stay inside the bodyline and look great .
I had to smile seeing the discussion about " not worth fitting locking wheel nuts "  because nobody pinches wheels anymore .
I fitted a set because I didn't want anybody nicking my expensive shiny new tyres !  Silly 'innit .
