Well I hope you enjoy yourself on the test drive and find the Jimny is for you.
Get it on some poor surface A roads, it's about as bad as a Jimny will get in the comfort department. It's light weight and short wheelbase can make it feel a little "jiggly" on these surfaces at speeds above 40mph. Of course this just my opinion, but often overlooked in favour of blasting down the motorway or a 30mph drive around a town centre.
You should feel at home in it with your Defender background, plenty on here own Land Rovers as well (1960 S2), the Jimny is a perfect run around.

Jimnys do seem to have a bit of a rust problem, so your mechanic’s advice about getting it under sealed is probably spot on. I am not sure if the under seal is any worse than any then car or if is the type of use that a Jimny might see means it is more susceptible to under body damage, but definitely worth getting it done sooner or later.

There seems to be several things that wear out quickly, but in comparison to a defender it is probably no worse, maybe slightly better.

Prices for a Gen 4 are high at the moment, ever since a supply issue and then withdrawal from the UK market.

Well it was the last day of Defender ownership. Went out driving a Defender came home with a Jimny,,,,More than pleased driving back up the M1, Could do with a 6th gear but as it's not designed for motorway driving that's not an issue. Will get some Dinotrol ordered to give the wheel arches etc rust proofed. Some front seat cover will be a must as a mucky dog will ruin them.
