I always assumed it did not have a low fuel light until today - too many gizmos!

Sounds daft now, but I had always assumed my G3 did not have many "modern" gizmos, a low fuel light being one of them.
Always filling up just before empty on the old fashioned gauge, 2.5 years have passed in blissful ignorance until today.
Running a bit closer to the empty line than I wanted on a journey today, I nearly jumped out of the car when a strange yellow warning light appeared on the right.
What was this witchcraft?
Well it's my never seen before low fuel light!

So how many miles do I have left when this illuminates, the gauge looked almost empty?

Not sure I like this gizmo laden Jimny, what other hidden warning lights exist :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Please understand my previous car (VW) had millions of failure and warning lights, it also had a penchant for turning them all on just to empty my wallet, so it was a bit of a shock to see one on our trusted Jimny.

My other car is a VW so I know all about the electronics.. However most of my faults there got better just by a better quality battery.

But on another gauge topic, did the extreme low pressure weather system pass you guys in britain a couple of weeks ago? must have passed the scotland at least on its way to western Norway. Very high tide..
But the strangest thing was the fuel gauge, acting strange showing low fuel but all I could fill it with was 7 liters. the guy at the petrol station said it was the low pressure weather system..

Well - I dont think mine has one either - or if ther eis one, it doesn't work - I've let the fuel level get horrendously low from time to time and its never put a light on - I've always managed to run it on what I thought were fumes as I arrived on the petrol station forecourt!

You've got me wondering now!

Just been looking at the manual and it confirms a low fuel indicator, but all it says is "if illuminated refuel immediately". The manual is March 2007, so it's been fitted since then. It also said that if the gauge is in the red "refuel immediately". My gauge does not have a red zone, so maybe that is why it has the indicator.
Should have noted how much fuel went in, then I could have figured out how many miles I had left. I'll do it next time.

I seem to remember my dads old Ford Cortina having one of these fangled warning lights and he reckoned most manufacturers 'built in' a reserve of about 30 miles after the warning light came on. From other vehicles of various manufacturers that I've owned over the years, I'd tend to agree there is about another 30 miles remaining.

I recall one glorious summers day I left Ludlow in Shropshire to drive back to Wallingford in Oxfordshire in my '79 MG (no warning light) the guage was reading less than 1/8 and I decided I'd refuel it en route at Tenbury Wells which was just a few miles into my journey.
Well, the drive was so pleasant I sailed past Tenbury with the wind in my hair enjoying the drive until I got to the outskirts of Worcester nearing a place called Hallow whereupon the car started coughing and trying to conk out.
I immediately realised my mistake and weaved the car dramatically to try and 'slop' the last dregs of fuel down the pipeline, and luckily it was enough to get me a few hundred more yards along the road to a petrol station on my left, the forecourt however was up a slope, and as I pulled up besides the nearest fuel pump the engine finally stopped. I couldn't believe how lucky I was not to have been walking to a garage!
Although the garage has now gone (I think it's a Vauxhall showroom now) I never pass that place without thinking of that day when I made it all the way from Ludlow to (almost Worcester|) on fumes

Low fuel light comes on at about 5 litres on Dreadnaught and at first can be affected by the inclination of the car relative to level. 5 litres usually gets about 30 miles or more than enough to find fuel usually of the preferred brand not just closest. That said I have on one occasion managed to get 39.5 litres in the tank while on the north coast of Scotland out of season, that was getting quite desperate!
