Power take off. was created by Lambert
On my way back from the bigjimny meet I was thinking, usually a bad sign, given that my air conditioning system is effectively inoperable would it be feasible to replace the compressor with a pulley and bearing that wer shafted to a half inch square drive of similar that I could then use to drive things like a water lift pump or other small mechanical equipment, not full sized tractor PTO equipment but little things that take some of the effort out of being off grid? Just a thought and I have probably missed a really important aspect?

No you have not missed something, what you suggest could be done, after all the AC compressor is an auxiliary device.
So long as the device being driven is happy with the RPM and the load it will impose within the tolerance of the belt drive it would work.
Your main issue is making the PTO connection accessible easily, safely and within the Jimny structure.
Just expanding your idea how about driving a small hydraulic motor and route pipes to a slave motor for the PTO connection, you could retain the electric clutch from the AC to make the connection.
Just thinking, as you say, usually a bad thing.
Have fun
Mike

Isn't this where onboard air (like the Icelandics favour) comes from? I remember a belt driven compressor on an old Land Cruiser.

Fit an older SJ manual transfer box with genuine PTO fitted.

Ah no I'm not after a full pto like would run a winch or saw table like the series 1 land rover more lightweight than that. It would be most useful for being able to abstract water for the sheep to drink which currently happens with either a bucket and some plastic containers or with a bulk container and a big manly pump which takes a lot of preparation. I was thinking that a smaller pump running off the Jimny would fill the small containers much quicker than the bucket and without the agro of the bulk setup. Something like a hundred litres a minute on say a ten meter lift. If it were only the pulley and drive that were permanently on the car that be better. More research needed.

Why not use something like this little electric pump:
