If you're likely to use it regularly and like the way it looks, go for it!
I like the idea of a rack but as I'd only be likely to use it a couple of times a year I didn't want the additional weight and wind resistance for the rest of the time.
Roofbars were a better option for me - the ones I've got now hold their width setting when removed, so I can fit them in 5 minutes if needed and they're nice and compact to store when not in use.
