Martin, you say you probably wouldn’t build it that way again in order to keep it lighter. what would you do without if you were to build another?

I would almost be inclined to put mud tyres on a standard jimny and leave it.

In a way, everything else could be considered as remediation for poor driving.

Rollcage = shouldn't have gone there in the first place
Winch = shouldn't have gone there in the first place
Metal bumpers = drive more carefully and not hit anything
Rock sliders - drive more carefully and not hit anything

I know this over-simplifies things and I have a fully prepped Jimny but I know I have been passed by standard Jimnys happily "floating" over the problem whilst mine flops into the mud and stays there.

My front bumper is way too heavy. It is modified on top of modified so weight has been added left right and centre. It was a basic KAP one without winch facilty. Winch was added by cutting and welding in more metal = more weight. Could go back to trimmed plastic with a hidden winch mount and lighter winch.

Rock sliders are heavy box section, could probably go for aluminium bar for lightness but strength.

Huge wheel mass, all done for looks and vanity :)

Martin

Appreciate your honesty and outlook there Martin. That puts things into perspective for me.

How about the lift? Is that something you regret?

Cheers.

Thanks for that Martin, really useful insight for me.

Having said that, gadget is a bad influence so I will be joining the rock sliders club. More weight to go along with the already fitted towbar, KO2s and fuel filter guard!
