My first trial..... (apart from that time when I was 19) was created by sniper
I navigated for jackonlyjack at an off road trial event today, the first time either of us had been to one, let alone competed.
Jack and his jimny R&B, drove fantastically, we came 3rd in the RTV open class. The biggest hurrah was doing two rounds clear with no defaults. It was far more challenging than envisaged, some sections made experienced Landrover drivers baulk. The jimny proved to be very competent and raised a few eyebrows amongst an entirely Landrover field, completing obstacles that they failed on.
If we had known what the craic was with walking and remembering the route properly, we would have done much better. We aim to make a better show next time.
My phone died so that's as good as I got, jack has more and I'm sure he'll post.
I never thought that owning a Jimny would lead to me joining, The Peaks and Dukeries Landrover Club.......

Sorry jack, I thought I joined the Peaks & District Landrover Club and was then affiliated to the Peaks & Dukeries Off Road Club......
I was never very good at following stuff.....
I might not have been the best choice of navigator eh.... especially after the drive home (missed a turn and added 10mins to a 30min journey)......

Everybody was welcoming and helpful but you couldn't help but feel like the new boys cos' we were.... That showed when we couldn't understand the way the gates set out the route but you can decide on your approach to the gate yourself. Penalised for stopping, reversing and touching a flag, It's not as simple as you might think. I'd only watched a few minutes on Youtube.
I can see it taking a day or two's marshalling to learn the ropes properly, watching the old hands as they go round.
We might make ourselves a little more comfortable next time too, hot drinks and hot food would be a boon. 40-50mph winds on top of a Peak behind Bonsall, it was miserably cold.
I was very impressed by an old 1958 series, it was battered and patched but bashed along better than much "fancier" machines.
