Get some long-nosed pliers onto it - see if you can get one tip of the pliers into that hole and pull the cover off.

I assume you have the special socket with the three pin/holes in it?

Thanks for the suggestions. No joy so far.

Tried the screw method but not enough traction for the screw to grip.

Tried long nose pliers - no give, feels rock solid.

Stuck screwdriver and plier tips into existing hole. Think I’ve widened it slightly, that’s all!

No socket set to try that - will need to borrow one. Likewise the pipe pliers.

From what you have done so far, do you perceive it as being some sort of soft metal cover that has corroded or got stuck on?

If its soft(ish) metal you could try and chisel it off with a sharp screwdriver and a hammer assuming that you can get to it easily enough - maybe try and get one side of it chiselled off and the rest will follow?

Really hard to tell to be honest, due to it being recessed.

Unfortunately I can't get at it to try this.

Not straight on, but this should give you an idea.
