As regards the drain plug I am assuming you used a 10mm square bit and not a 3/8 AF as they are so close in size it is difficult to tell which is which. If it was the 10mm did you give the bit a good hit with a hammer when fitted to the plug as that can help loosen any corrosion that is holding it in. It is vital too to keep the plug bit square to the centre of the plug when turning the t bar(as opposed to a ratchet) and that can be done using a jack pressed against the t bar just enough to hold it square and still be able to apply maximum torque. If that all fails you could drill the centre of the plug as you have a replacement to a size big enough to get a hacksaw blade in to cut the thread enough to weaken it to allow the chisel to finish it off.
