Tow bar (help in choosing) was created by Clint68
Hi, thanks to everyone who has helped with my previous post over wiring. I’m now undecided on what type of tow bar I go for. I originally wanted a fixed flange type but the supplier I preferred to use do not sell the fixed flange due to it obscureing the number plate and therefore forcing me to purchase the more expensive detatchable. There are other companies out there that supply fixed flange for the Jimny and I have viewed pics on Google, I’m not convinced that it obscures the number plate enough to get a pull by the Police. I will only use the Jimny for the occasional camping trip to pull a small trailer.
What type of tow bars do other Jimny owners use and any suggestions to what type of bar would be suited for me? I have also noticed 3 different types of fitment to the chassis (please see attachments) which is the prefered fitment type?
Appreciate any help.
Clint

This is the one I bought from Amazon.
Suzuki Jimny 2door 2-4WD 2001 On Detachable Towbar with 7 pin Bypass Relay UT370COR19ZM/WU800UK2
Sorry, but I don't know how to post a link!
The picture on Amazon is the same as the one with the detachable swan neck, but in reality the fixings are nothing like the picture.

I have one of each on my 2 and in the near future I will be ditching the detachable one in favour of another fixed one. There's a thread a little while ago about why i want to.

Hi, did you fit the tow bar yourself and if so what fitting type from the 3 pictures I posted did you use?
Thanks

Hi Fozzie, checked your tow bar out on Amazon. The chassis fittings look like there meant for a different car.and the same as in the top picture I supplied. The bottom picture seems the most common fitting for a Jimny. What type of fitting was yours and did you fit it yourself?

Hi Clint,
The swan neck removable part is virtually the same as your top picture, and the tow bar mounting is very similar to the bottom picture.
When I bought mine at the end of last year from Amazon, I thought it was a different mounting system to the one I put on the 07 Jimny. As it happens, it was exactly the same, the picture is wrong.
I fitted it myself. It took about an hour. You don't need to remove the rear bumper, but it does help to remove a couple of screws under the bumper to allow you to get your hands in to put the fiddly nuts and bolts in. Also, with all of these tow bars, the rear silencer does sometimes knock on the main cross bar of the tow bar. This happened on both my jimmy's. To stop it knocking, I cable tied a small piece of soft rubber on the cross bar. (The exhaust mounts are quite soft which allows up and down movement of the rear silencer and hence the knock!).
Hope this helps.
