i would advise you to find some mud or loose gravel put it 4wd
give it some throttle and spin the wheels a few times
this should release any transmission wind up you may have caused

If you put manual hubs on, and they are locked in, can you still drive in 2x4 without damaging anything?

Yes mads you can. I do that with mine if i am hopping between fields with a trailer on. The buttons still work just as they should to disengage the drive in the transfer box then it is just the wheels pushing the front driveline components round instead of the engine.
