The differences between the various VW R4 1.8 engines in order to achieve different power ouputs are extensive and include different cams, valves, pistons, cranks, VVT, different size turbos, intakes and exhausts. It's not as simple as tuning the ECU to go from 100hp to 125hp and then adding a turbo to get 225 hp.

The Suzuki M13 VVT engine is the same in all models, but the intake and exhaust are quite different in the Jimny. The cams could be different, but looking at where the engine makes it's peak power and torque in each application this looks unlikely. I very much doubt Suzuki chose to limit the power in the Jimny using the ecu. It would be mapped differently to work with the Jimny intake and exhaust. CAT Cams make a series of higher perfomance cams for the M13a which would gain you 5-10hp, so you could try that but it would need a re-map anyway, it would move the power further up the rev-range, and the cams alone would cost the same as a 105hp 1.6 engine.

If there was an easy way to re-map the Jimny ECU and get 97hp Rhinoman would have made it readily available for us all long before now.

Don't forget you need Torque off road, not just Horse Power, so make sure anyone that maps your Jimny understands this.

I suspect that you'll find that most of the difference is in the intake, the Jimny airbox is relatively small. You won't get much R&D on a tune, probably a few dyno runs but not many dynos can put a full load on the engine, usually you get a bit more advance added at the top end and maybe some minor fuelling tweaks, you may well need super unleaded to get the benefit. The Jimny should have a knock count but it doesn't seem to be implemented in the Suzuki 'OBD1' diagnostics; one day I'll track down the memory address then it can be read using a different mode.
One day I'll measure the volume of the airboxes, I have noted that when the Ignis went from 1.3 to 1.5 the airbox was made significantly larger, presumably the rest of the intake piping was upped as well to allow more air into the larger throttle body. The Vitara also has a similar issue, the whole intake is scaled to the stock throttle body so you can't go up in size without all new piping.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
