My m13 is nominally 83hp from the factory. The m13 in a swift is nominally 92hp before a trip to fensport, where are these additional horses kept? What i mean is are they in the ecu or is it more in components like say injectors or the inlet or exhaust tracts? My point is can i aquire these missing horses easily or is it electronic engineering? Cheers for the info.

Firstly, I believe the Swift engine has VVT.
I'd be looking at the exhaust manifold for power gains from a Jimny- the standard one is a fairly crude lump of iron. Bigger injectors won't change anything until you make improvements in other areas. There is very little to gain from re-mapping the ECU on a standard engine, but if you start making breathing mods a re-map will help get the best out of them.

First off my bad mine is a vvt with 86 hp so im actually only missing 6 hp over a swift. But looking at the likes of celtic tuning they offer a chip tune that claims to get the hp up to 97 for a 1.3 with a denso ecu allegedly. That is 12 over factory and quite respectable for a non turbo engine chip tune. Not surprisingly however they don't list the Jimny as an available model and therefore if they will even entertain doing a tune i doubt it would cheap. Part of me isn't keen on chip tune because there are so many different ways to get ripped off and by the same token even if the tuner is honest how do you know what r and d has been done on the tune? I do like the idea of ported and flowed head and decent tubular exhaust but again not cheap but you do see what you are getting. Maybe I need a turbo like Keith.

Their 97hp tune will be for a 92hp Swift, and probably measured on an optimistic dyno. If you want more power, the most economical option is an engine swap. Also if you do the engine swap first then you will get bigger returns from all the other mods.

Give it a few month's to see if it goes pop first!
Mine was brand new £80 on ebay.....4 years ago.....knew I'd find a use for it!
I'll add up the other costs in the build thread for it sometime soon.

That is my point, suzuki will not be making an entirely different type of m13 engine for the Jimny, ignis , swift and whatever else they put it in they will have one source for them and will use the ecu to deliver the different levels of power. It is therefore not unreasonable to get the same hp from the engine regardless of what it is fitted in. There's no way that the variation of exhaust manifolds between applications is entirely responsible for loosing or gaining 6 hp not on such a small naturally aspirated engine. Its like the vw 1.8 motor same engine but available anywhere between 100 and 225 hp depending on fitment, ok that is a turbo but it is still the same engine.
