hi so im looking for some ideas on axles ... toyota are to expensive for what they are to be honest . land rover the steering lock is shit . any other axles that would be stronger then jimny also wider with out having spacers on ... currently building a 1.9 tdi tray back what is running 31 inch tyres and crawler box . i know can buy hardened shafts and brace the axles i will be doing that any ways as i 4 link it but i am wanting something that is wider by about 60 mm and stronger with out all the cost of shafts etc so can just brace up make spring seats where sute and so on and be done with . then can lose the 32 mm wheel spacers to . so long story short what axles would people recommend for right money .

If Toyota axles are too expensive I'd say you better just leave it on standard axles then.

well when you are wanting a pair and they go from anything like £400 each to £750 each it becomes daft there is lots of axles out there that are just as good for a lot less money just seen what other people may have used . as say land rover see them on them but the steering lock is shit . toyota great but over priced . mitubishi have lockers in rear of some yet there independent on the front so rules them out unless somebody knows more then me about them once . jeep Cherokee diff is in wrong place so would rule them out
idea is to have a cheap motor sport dont have to pay through the nose to have something great off road

I just can't see how £4-500 is too expensive for a complete set of axles looking at what it actually is you're getting. Of course it needs brackets, but a decent welder should be able to do that without costing a fortune.
The same kind of money only gets you uprated shafts and CVs for the Jimny front axle.

If it's that kind of money I can see what you mean.
But I'm amazed that the axles are that expensive. Here in Denmark a set of LJ70 axles are around £150-250.
And you're right.
Uprated internals are more than enough for most use. They're more than fine for up to 31" tyres when not doing competition. And as you say, much easier to do service on.

i am more than capable of making axles fit and putting braces on etc etc its just would pref something wider already stronger with out the pissing about i dont mind if i have to use jimmy once but if there was a cheaper option then i would go that way so was more seen if anybody knew of any and yeah its around £650 per axle so ends up costing about what you can pay for a full jeep lmfaoo doing all engine conversion my self all rest my self 4 link my self-doing the work is not the problem making axles fit is not a problem but by sounds of it there is no other axles other than expensive land cruiser axles and land rover axles where steering lock is rubbish ... so next quetion is where to get hd shafts joints from and if i could get set of lj70 axles for that price here i would trust me lmfao ... thanks for replays
