How would it work for a car that has a non removable strip (usually painted on between the layers of glass that make up the screen) from factory?

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

There is a clause in the MOT manual allowing "original vehicle design characteristics" which would cover a factory opaque area.
For MOT, the tester considers the area 290mm wide, centred on the steering wheel centre that is swept by the wiper blade.
You must not encroach more than 10mm into this.
The rest of the screen you have 40mm into the swept area.
All of this applies to opaque objects, if the tint isn't opaque it shouldn't matter,
As most people fit larger wiper blades, there should be a lot more failures really.
And you thought manufacturers fit smaller blades to save a few coppers

 can just picture it with some 6 inch wiper blades on
It's a non graduated 20% limo tint strip that doesn't come below the mirror and is actually the same depth as the drop down sun visor.
