The other thing is that if you are not using the winch that often that can actually do it no good as much as it being cheap in the first place. What I mean is that because a cheap winch is built to a budget not only does that increase the liklihood of component failure under working conditions but it also means that things like seals on gearing and solenoid packs etc will not be good at keeping road spray and rain out meaning that it is more likely to fail just from lack of use. Also worthy of consideration is the availability of spare parts as often the parts needed to fix a cheap item are individually more expensive than the original purchase of a complete one. What I'm getting at is just be careful, cheap is not the same as good value.

I have a £90 3000lb ATV winch which even without a snatch will pull me out of ruts but for a ditch I would use the snatch. I am sure for most people green laning this is the extent of their needs, just don't rescue discos.
Only problem is the drum size but I never need to winch right upto the anchor so I just carry a spare length of rope.
