No reverse was created by Brownie
So last night I heard a big clunk and then I couldn't reverse. The reverse light comes on but it just doesn't reverse I know my clutch release bearing was noisy could it have just failed it engages all the forward gears just not reverse

Ouch!
Unfortunately it sounds like you have a gearbox problem. I'm sure that the clutch release bearing isn't the culprit. It might be noisy, but it wouldn't stop you just selecting reverse.

Definitely a gearbox problem. For the reverse lights to work, the switch inside the gearbox is obviously being pressed but something else in there isn't doing what it should!
