On the menu there is an option to change the radio to Europe which I have done.
Surely an FM frequency is the same as any FM frequency anywhere??
Your radio was probably set up to receive popular Japanese frequencies by default??
I was surprised I couldn't get anything on AM though.

It all points to an aerial defect or something is amiss on the settings.
Touching the aerial doesn't make any difference as that usually helps reception.
It's as if you have unplugged any aerial just static.

I've not had a chance to test the aerial yet or even just stick some wire in the aerial socket lol

There is a wire that is allocated to power aerials so it's not that.
There is no mention on the diagram of a black wire apart from the thick black wire that goes to - negative ( battery)

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Most of the OEM radios for Japanese home market models have a very limited range, the aftermarket models are designed for worldwide use.
Have you tried manually tuning the radio rather than relying on the auto seek facility?

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

Thanks rhinoman I did get a few stations doing that so at least I now know the radio works.
They weren't very good reception wise though.
So how do I get the search to lock on to them??

Be aware that just because the end of the ariel lead fits in the receiver doesn't mean that the actual signal connection is making a positive join. It has happened to me that the thin inner terminal on the coaxial has been too small to contact the corresponding bit of the stereo. It might be worth checking the sizes are compatible.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationUpdate lol

The Chinese makers seem to think the thin black wire is an earth but it doesn't seem to make any difference when earthed.
Despite the brand being on the box they deny it is one of theirs.

Anyway I had come to the conclusion that, as the screen is larger than the normal DIN size. I would have no option but to cut the dash fascia.
Before I did this I obtained a s/h replacement(£20) so that if I ever remove the radio it can be put back to standard.

I again emphasise this is because of the tilting screen being larger than standard fascia trims and anyone with a standard double din shouldn't have any problem.

I have bought a universal trim that is flat in profile and widened the top and bottom horizontally a couple of mm.
The vertical sides are fine.

Can anyone recommend a good plastic glue so that I can glue it on??
I need a thin glue like superglue or model glue.
I don't want anything that will not allow the trim to sit flat on the original fascia so silicon type stuff is a no no.

You can get a super glue with an activator with it which makes it go off straight away but you have no second chance with it - it sticks like sh!te to a blanket can't remember what it's called but I'll have a look later on the Web ;)
