Chinese stereo head unit

Just in the process of fitting a double din head unit to my 08 VVT.
I'm having some problems with the dash as it has a flip front screen to get at the cd/dvd slot and the SD card/satnav card.
The screen is actually larger than the standard 100 x 178 trim so I can't use the cheap Jimny one I bought as it stops the screen tilting/closing.

However my main problem is the radio. Everything is working fine eg SD card loaded with music, satnav etc.
All I'm getting from the radio is static. The standard Jimny aerial just plugged in to the back with no adapters.
When I do a scan it seems to lock on to various stations and the static changes but still no sound.
It certainly sounds like an aerial fault.

Does the VVT Jimny have a signal booster or powered aerial ??
I haven't connected any of the unit powered leads as I assumed they would only be for an electric aerial but should I have connected the aerial power lead to the Jimny loom??

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Mine wasn't powered on my 07 plate does the aerial fit nicely? What happens if you manually find a station? If you go to Halfords and buy an ariel you can test it then take it back after your test then you would know if it's the jimny one at fault

I'm getting nothing but static on am/fm.
I just wondered if I am missing some setting or other but the Chinese instructions are not the easiest to wade through lol
It's a winCe system.

I suppose I could take it out and plug the old unit back in to double check the aerial is working.
Not hard to do as the install is actually very easy.

The leads I have connected are the
Yellow (continous power)
Red (switched power)
Black (earth)
and the 8 speaker wires.

There is a spare thin black wire coming out of the power connection "group" but I cannot find any reference to it on the wiring diagram??

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Double check it with the old one then you will know for certain that your jimny one is ok

Here is the actual unit. You can see from the dimensions the screen is 103mm and I wouldn't recommend this type for the Jimny but I got it cheap lol
Otherwise the cheap Jimny trim at around £10 would fit a standard size unit.

When I said a "spare" black wire it was already partially pre- stripped along with the power and speaker wires as in the ad. Any other wires eg tv etc were capped.

If I remember right, when I had a Mitsubishi Delica (import) the standard radio/cd player would only pick up something along the lines of Radio Two on FM and nothing on AM, only static.
There was an adaptor you could fit so that the radio could be tuned in to the 'between' frequencies.
This did help but wasn't great. Replaced the unit in the end with a European double din unit. No problems after that.
Just a thought......

The black wire you mention could be for a powered aerial, to raise/lower when radio is turned on/off.

The adaptor was a band expander.

Any how, ignore my input, you seem to have it sussed.
