New to Jimny - need help was created by ivan83
Hi,

I recently bought a 99 jimny, all looks good drove it 60+miles home and it seemed fine. a few weeks later we had serious floods down our way and our road got washed away, i though no problem for the Jimny, but the 4wd light started flashing and didn't work. It worked when i took it for a test drive before buying it so it must have got a knock when i was stuck as there were some nasty boulders in the road - i only realised the extent when the floods dried up a bit.

So as i was stuck in the road in the middle of a flood with no 4wd i had to get a neighbour to tow me out, and in the middle of it all the back shock must have taken a knock because now it is hanging off - it came away from the axle. I took it to a garage the other day and he said it'd take approx 4 hrs to make something up and get it fixed properly in time for the MOT in a couple of months. He said also that the other shock doens't look too good and could come away soon too. he's going to charge me £42/hr so the bill could run away by the sounds of things - can i get some advice?

He's thinking of making some kind of reinforced bracket or something to go onto it which should hold it but he didn't fill me with confidence. I don't have a lot of money to throw at it and need it with the winter coming in fast...

Any advice? I can post some photos but this is my 3rd time posting this in the same no. of days but it doesn't seem to be making it to the forum!

Thanks,

So sorry to hear about and see the damage.

All the mountings on your axle look really badly rusted I'd think the radius arm ( painted Blue) mounts will be next and it won't be easy fir your garage to weld anything to. Personally I'd be looking for a second hand axle with less rust, should cost about £100.

On the 8th Day God made the LandRover -
On the 9th day he swapped it for a Jimny.
