Hi façade,
Painting them... that's a good idea, along with them being over-packed with grease. I must admit that the idea had crossed my mind.
I have ordered new king pin bearings, seals and dust seals from Jimnybits. I'll gunk it off and check for oil/grease in two or three weeks. If I suspect anything wrong, I'll change them. At least I'll know they're okay then.
Thanks all.

On this subject, has anyone drilled, tapped and fitted a grease nipple to the swivel housing? Would it be a good idea?

Wouldn't have thought it was a good idea as the swivel doesn't need much grease, its the CV joint that has the grease . the swivel should have a smear of grease around the back of the large seal and that is all.

Hi Martin, that's what I meant, drill through the outer housing maybe down at the bottom near the kingpins so you can get grease into the cv?

mine are always full of that gunk. my mechanic keeps greasing them. but most of the gunk is that surplus that comes out. however, the left side has fresh gunk, like ,shiny. i think it might be leaking a bit, but since the grease is recent, might just be excess coming out. still, not gona sweat it, since there's no wobble i'm gonna assume everything's fine (famous last words)
