I didn't record it but it was a crack that you could hear and a clunking in the steering wheel but only on undulating terrain never on the flat and no amount of rocking or lifting the body would replicate it, took an age to diagnose.

Mothers terios was like that banging away. That turned out to be the front top mounts for the suspension strut again no obvious play but banging about sending us mad.

A little update.
I took my Pajero for MoT where the shaker lift has now been installed . Turns out they cannot put 4x4 on the brake thingy and he had to do an G test out in the open. I ain't seen that done in around 50 years. :ohmy: Also the shaker was not used either; God knows why, I don't. And they had a new gizmo for emissions which only required a tap on the throttle. All change there then.
Oh yes, it passed thank goodness. ;)

Actually I suggested that to him indirectly - I said "you know this is not permanent four wheel drive" and he came out with some statement about the rig's instructions so I left him to go shred my tyres with his gadget. Good job it was not snowing and icy today. It was an electronic one that gives a print out. Nice bit of kit.
