Thanks for the replies, especially the time it took to type the last one. Just gotta find the right one I guess and in the meantime try not to drift over to the RAV4. (apologies for the blasphemy).

What year Rav 4 were you looking at? A mate had on but cant remember the year of it (Between 2012 and 2013) and they are so tinny these days, whenever you closed the doors or boot it sounded like you were closing a tin can.

You have to remember the Jimny is an old design from the mid nineties and first imported to the UK in 1998.
It has had few body changes but the engines and gearbox has been changed 3 times in its life.
Otherwise apart from a cosmetic job on the interior it has remained much the same.
Rust issues tend to be on the older cars.
In 2005/6 there was an interior facelift along with push button 4WD selection and different front bumper. The engine was changed to a VVT.
The VVT models had problems with a faulty propshaft that caused the oil to leak from the gearbox but most were done under warranty and I should think that problem should be sorted by now.
Depending on what you want pricewise 2002/05 had a twin cam and 05/06 onwards had the same engine with VVT and the updated interior.
Check out the road tax on the autos as the Jimny in general is not particularly low and the autos are a group higher.
There are currently 32 autos on ebay and the autos are generally the ones that don't get modified for off road use.
Prices reflect demand so they must have something going for them??
Perhaps if you told us what you want to pay??

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)
