I assume you can but just lift the throttle to take the weight off.
If the handbook is there have a quick read or check the sun visor as there is usually a warning sticker .

To test that the front auto free wheeling hubs are locking, put it in 4WD with the engine running (they work off vacuum so the engine needs to be running to create the vacuum) and jack up one of the front wheels. Then turn the wheel that's off the ground and if the front prop spins, the hubs are locked.
Obviously have it in neutral when doing this.
To test the transfer box is going into 4WD on the buttons is trickier but it's not a system known for any problems.
The push button transfer box works by solenoids putting it in whatever you have pressed the button for rather than a lever
The auto gearboxes are known for overheating off road. So an uprated oil cooler for the transmission oil is recommended along with regular transmission oil and filter changes. It ought to be cherry red on the transmission oil dip stick and not look burnt.
