The way that salt lies under the rust makes me think that the atmosphere was laden with it and lands on the metalwork like a fog hits your windscreen. And then it sticks. This workhorse is now put out to pasture in the lovely Birmingham atmosphere.

. I found the Kurust / Hammerite combination covered very well, however I did pre-clean with an aerosol of brake cleaner which is an excellent surface preparation
There is no real pattern emerging, the rusting is very random but very widespread. Fortunately it has not got to the rot stage yet - where my Pinin had rusted, it was rot. Having worked from the rear end I am just at the front wings areas now and have treated the rust today with Aquasteel. There are some very small minor rust patches still to be done that I shall return to when I Waxoyl the chassis innards and doors etc. I've left it to "cure" for a full day as per the destructions (a total pain as it added a day to each section I did) so tomorrow I'llgo over it with Hammerite underseal and replace the arch liners. It has been a mammoth task and I have no idea how much extra life I have bought.
I think this stuff is like Jenolite rather than Kurust, the brushes can be cleaned with water. Jenolite always has been my favourite but I like that it is white (until the reaction with the rust) as I can see where I have missed.
I have used a full 2.5L of Underseal and might not have enough for this last bit.

Will you replace the exhaust heat shield? When I replaced my Jimny rear box it was a tad larger than the one I took off and I was forever plagued with it tapping against the chassis.

My rear box one had to be cut off even though a small amount simply crumpled in my hands.
Farther forward the heat shield has protected the floor by being a sacrificial layer.
