Mine was a smokey Joe, hard to pass the emissions and was clearly the valve stem seals. A blown head gasket gives other symptoms too which is why I would rule it out initially. I tried all sorts from thicker oil to products for making oil thicker then I used this stuff and though it had to be used correctly it 98% cured my smoking. eBay item number:380943251405 but mine was available in the UK!!
Plenty of folks don't like this sort of fix but if it works why not try it before spending hundreds.

Normally if it was smokey and you put it down to oil then you would expect the smoke to be blue not white. White is normally associated with water and black with overfuelling, that is on petrol engines.

Generally I agree but I have had what looks like white rather than blue smoke, sometimes it is hard to tell. Last time I waited for white smoke to go was when I had a head skimmed and they used a cleaner that literally took weeks to clear. Head gasket etc. white smoke is accompanied by other problems and none were mentioned by the OP. So for now I am sticking to some sort of oil burn maybe even through the piston seals.

Is that not fixable in situ so to speak.
