I've mostly kept the seats down as it's mainly used as a 2 seater but anytime I've used the rear seats I just stood at the back and removed the headrests and pulled the knob and dropped them forward and reverse for raising them until the knob clicked.
I don't think it's mentioned anywhere in the UK literature about pulling the knob up to tilt the backrest?? I was just browsing and came across the NZ pics.
Even if you just pushed the front seats forward and sat in the back with the backrests tilted back it would make a comfortable place to sit and have something to eat on a rainy day(watching DVD's on your new double din multimedia radio lol)as by tilting it back the "shelves" above the wheel arches are then completely exposed.
Such a simple thing and I never knew about it.
Of course any other use you put it to is up to you but as I'm old eating/sleeping is all I'm interested in

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

I never knew they did that either,

but looks like the only way you could sleep there,
would be face down with head on front seat,
and lower legs on the rear seat backs :S

unless of course you're only 140cm tall :pinch:

It's not just me that didn't know then??
I've tried it and it's not that bad but for serious sleeping probably a roll out memory foam mattress topper(at least 2") would probably help??
However if you had those large "V" type pillows I'm sure it would be reasonably comfortable in a sort of reclining chair position/way?? ;)

It might be useful for the odd night or fishermen etc??
It might also be useful if stuck because of a motorway accident or bad weather but Jimny's don't get stuck do they??

Most cars can do this, it is in the drivers handbook.

Always seemed such a faff to me. as the front seat has to be moved forwards, headrest taken out etc, I also find that the older and wearier I get, the easier I can fall asleep standing up, never mind sitting down

I've done it in The Other Car to collect a new back door for the house on the passenger seat though

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

My handbook only illustrates the pre 2006 seats on a 2008 car with no mention of the newer type.
Not looked to see if it mentions the tilt back facility though??
