Looking at the Thunderpole link, something like this on the back door looks a great idea

I've never actually taken the back panel off the rear door but I expect it's quite straightforward to do and bolt the mount to the rear door?

Made mine.....just a piece of ally bent 90degrees.think its attached using one of the rubber stops for the spare wheel with a small bolt through the door to stop it spinning.cant really remember was a long time ago.

If using a short aerial for your cb I'd suggest a roof mount as they dont SWR in to well on the rear door, mine is on the verge of unnacceptable as i only use a short whip so it doesnt stick above the roof to much.

my VHF/UHF antenna is on the roof rack and i swap to a cheap stubby sprung whip when offroad as i dont need as much range.

Can take pics if you want.

Surely the rear door is a big enough ground plane for you to tune the swr.

Have you adjusted it's length to tune it in?

I had to cut an inch off mine to get the swr good. Now it's spot on.

I made my mount, its imagine an L shape comes up about 4 inches an bent in another L shape oppersit to the first one its fits between the side of the bonnet and wing fixed to where the wing bolts on,the top L points out over so the bonet won't catch with a quick release mount.

The coax comes back under the bonet and into the car through the grommet the bonet release cable and as mine is a soft top there is a steel section above the seats the cb is stuck to the roof with magnets from pc hard drives (they are very strong) can all be removed in seconds.
