Thats exactly how I've done mine...
I had earthed the rear door to the body at the hinge using a length of copper cable. The aerial is a 4ft "super flexi" which is a top coil so that the majority of it is above plane of the roof. I got the SWR down to 1.4 so I was pretty happy!
Driving through a mutistorey carpark is interesting though, the aerial catches, bends and then smacks of the rear door. :lol: Doesn't do any harm tho!

I've never actually taken the back panel off the rear door but I expect it's quite straightforward to do and bolt the mount to the rear door?
