Just remember that extra bracing, engineering, extra cost and so on, quickly adds up being more expensive and heavier than putting a small winch in the rear.

Yes at the end of the day if it ends up being heavier by a fair amount then running both winches I wont do it. Its just a project car and nice to do things a little different so cost etc is ok I just save up and do a bit at a time as I can afford it.

This is Rob from the ORA's Jimny Buggy winch -

The rear winch is actually mainly used to the front through a tube that ends up at a donut fairlead on the front -

And to winch backwards they take a loop off the drum and out of the fairlead and round a snatch block...

Very effective example on this YouTube video -

As you can see, you just grab a loop of rope from the top and run it through the fairlead to a snatch block and to the tree strop.

Rob uses Toyota axles though!

The location of the winch is pretty clever. As I see it, there is one major design flaw. The winch is mainly for winching forward, but the winch is mounted feet-backwards. Meaning the only thing holding the winch is the 6 mounting bolts. Not good enough.

Still stronger than feet down though, and a good compromise for forwards and backwards use?
